Flashbacks of Nam

Boo boo budoobey...Gan Ainm Nam! We've just come back from a crazy weekend in Saigon from which the city, and the band, is still reeling. The punters at the Dublin Gate Irish Pub didn't know what hit 'em. They don't normally get to see five gobshites making eejits of themselves to such an insane soundtrack. To get a taste of what it was like you can see a few new videos of our Vietnam gig that we've uploaded to our Video Footage page. We've come back with a terrible hangover, but also a renewed enthusiasm to get back in the studio and learn some brilliant new material with our new lineup.

Speaking of which, our new bassist, Paddy Troy, was well and truly broken in over the course of the weekend. He will never be the same again and that's probably not a bad thing. We're now looking for our sixth member to fill out our new lineup. Ideally he/she will be a fiddler but some other traditional instruments would also be fine. If you think you've got what it takes to drink 20 Jaegerbombs in one night and still manage to play some fast hard Irish rock then you might just be what we're looking for. Get in touch with us at our email ganainm.sg@gmail.com if you think you can handle it.

In the meantime we have a few gigs lined up for you over the next three months at our usual haunts, including a pre-Christmas gig so hopefully we'll be brushing up on Fairytale of New York. We're also really looking forward to entertaining the Singapore Gaelic Lions GAA Club at their annual post-Asian Gaelic Games piss-up in November where they will hopefully be celebrating bringing home some silverware for Singapore again. Watch this space and our Facebook for details of all our gigs and we'll see you soon!

A Farewell to Arms

Our bassist, Eugene McChew, and fiddler, Jeffrey O'Tan, have reached that certain age in a young man's life when he is called up and must go off to be conscripted in the military. They must therefore trade in their bass and fiddle for sandbags and spades and will be unable to continue to grace Gan Ainm as they will be stuck in the trenches on the eastern front (Tekong). This will also mean that Gan Ainm will unfortunately, have to go on an indefinite hiatus and this Saturday will be our farewell gig. Come down to McGettigan's Clarke Quay at 10:30pm on Saturday (28 May 2016) to get the two young lads heavily intoxicated and give them (and the rest of us) a proper send off, Gan Ainm style. Till we meet again...

Gan Ainm Play St Patrick's Weekend, Singapore 2016

It's that time of year again - time to break out mildly offensive Irish stereotypes and celebrate whatever people think it means to be Irish. This usually involves drinking to excess. What better place to do just that than McGettigan's, Clarke Quay where pints of Guinness are going for $10 each all weekend starting tonight! You don't need a pot of gold to afford that and you won't find a cheaper pint anywhere in Clarke Quay! Also Gan Ainm will be providing the soundtrack to your seasonal drunken revelry for as long as they can stand up. A small band of sweaty leprechauns are on standby (they are literally standing by on a small patch of empty bar counter) to fill in for us in case one or more of us passes out. We kick off tonight (17th March - St Patrick's Day!!!) at 9pm and we'll be back on Friday at 9:30pm and Saturday at 7pm. There's no excuse not to be there because if we find out you're at home we will send the leprechauns out to hunt you down. Don't think we won't. Sláinte!

Gan Ainm play CRAFT Singapore 2016!

Most Gan Ainm fans should know by now that when it comes to booze, Gan Ainm have very discriminating palettes. You will, no doubt, have observed us on various occasions sipping thoughtfully on various libations on stage and returning those found to be of inadequate quality. This is why we are particularly relieved to announce that we will be gracing CRAFT Singapore, Singapore's craft beer festival, with our presence this Sunday at 7pm, where we will finally have access to masterfully brewed beers and artisanal cuisine worthy of being associated with Gan Ainm's sterling reputation for quality and authenticity. And what better time and place to showcase this delectable pairing of Celtic rock and handcrafted brews than a relaxing Sunday evening down at Marina Bay, right beside the Marina Bay Sands (Bayfront MRT), as the sun sets. We look forward to tasting some refreshments with you then. It will undoubtedly be awfully civilised. Tickets available here.

St Patrick's Day, 2015

We'd like to thank all of you who came down to Circular Road to see us this weekend. It was a fantastic weekend with great music and great company and we enjoyed it thoroughly. If you didn't make it down, don't worry - you have another chance to see us tomorrow night when we celebrate the actual St Patrick's Day (Tuesday 17th March) down at Molly Malone's. We kick off nice and early at 7pm tomorrow and one or two of the other bands you would have seen up on the festival stage over the weekend will also be playing. Come down and put away a few pints to celebrate the Irish in all of us! Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig oraibh!
Sláinte! Circular Rd., Singapore. 15th March 2015.

Gan Ainm Mark the 354th Anniversary of Oliver Cromwell's Posthumous Execution

Looking for somewhere to celebrate the anniversary of the defilement of the corpse of a brutal 17th century English warlord but that also has a decent live Irish band? Of course you are - what else would you be doing on a Friday night. Well Molly Malone's Irish Pub on Circular Rd has to be in the top 5 places in Singapore to try looking for that this Friday night (30 January 2015) because Gan Ainm will be kicking off the Cromwellian wake there at around 9pm.

Also, there will be beer. This is even worse than that time we celebrated Yuri Gagarin's first trip to outer space. See you all on Friday night!

Gan Ainm's Christmas Gig

For the first time in many years, Gan Ainm are all around for Christmas. Also for the first time in years, we'll be playing in Molly Malone's, Circular Rd. So for the first time in many years, you'll get to see Gan Ainm performing Fairytale of New York at the correct time of year. The making merry and festive celebrations start this Friday 19th December at 9pm down at Molly Malone's. Nollaig shona!

Gan Ainm Mark the Half Way to Paddy's Day

This Saturday marks the half year mark from which we begin the countdown to Paddy's Day 2015! So obviously, therefore, here is half a leprechaun...it's like half leprechaun, half sexy woman. Because according to our marketing strategy, there is a high correlation between people who like drinking beer in large quantities in Irish pubs and people who like both leprechauns and sexy women...

So anyway the basic message you are expected to extract from that is come down to Muddy Murphy's to see Gan Ainm play at 9:30pm this Saturday 13th September. Also there will be beards.

Disclaimer: Leprechauns, sexy women and half leprechauns half sexy women not included. Any resemblance to any person, living, dead or your Mam are entirely coincidental.

Gan Ainm Introduces Muddy's to Our New Guitarist

Gan Ainm are positively ecstatic at the imminent prospect of introducing to Muddy Murphy's our brand new guitarist this Saturday (26th July 2014) at 9pm. It is of course fitting that we do so this Saturday, which is naturally the Maldivian Independence Day.

Disclaimer: The gig may not necessarily have anything whatsoever to do with the Maldivian Independence Day celebrations, official or otherwise. Also our guitarist may not necessarily look anything like this twat.

Gan Ainm - Big in Japan

Gan Ainm are going where no celtic band have gone before - a Japanese bar...in Chinatown...in Singapore. And we're bringing you all with us! We will be supported by the most aurally and visually pleasing band, Fig Jam. The show kicks off at 9 but you'll want to get down there by at least 8:30 to build up stockpiles of happy hour drinks.

Come down and support Gan Ainm as we play our first gig at Mariko's, 4 Jiak Chuan Road this Thursday, 17th April.

Happy Cosmonautics Day / Bryan McFadden's Birthday!

Celebrate this historic day when Westlife heartthrob, Bryan McFadden, came into the world, and Soviet Union military heartthrob, Yuri Gagarin left it for a quick spin out in space. How? By joining Gan Ainm down at Muddy Murphy's for a few daycent choons (decent tunes) and brewskis (beverages) this Saturday at 9:30pm. We'll have a complete spacer playing guitar so it's bound to be out of this world! ;)

Where will you be for Paddy's Day???

Want to be here?...
Only a week to go to a very long weekend of blurry green-tinged experiences that you can't really remember afterwards. Where will you be? Wish you could be in Ireland for the parade? You're not missing much - just a few old rusty tractors puttering down the street in the rain.

...or here?
You're better off down at Muddy Murphy's with Gan Ainm where Paddy's Day has been completely off the wall for the last few years since we took over! Every night from Thursday 13th March right up to St Patrick's Day itself on Monday 17th March we'll be blasting out some choons that are not recommended for anyone with a heart condition. On Sunday 16th we'll be starting bright and early at 2pm and going till late - just enough time for people to drag themselves out of bed after spending Saturday night with us! All the timings for the week are here.

This year is going to be particularly wild as you might say Gan Ainm have "gone electric". A few years ago we introduced bass and drums into the equation and our sound exploded. Now we've taken it to the next level and have Belfast heartthrob, Ignacio Calamari, playing full-on electric guitar that will blow your ears off, but not before we fill them with some of the best known Irish rock/punk/folk songs by bands like U2, The Pogues, Thin Lizzy, Stiff Little Fingers, The Sawdoctors, Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Mollys. We've revamped our setlist, learned lots of new songs and thrown a few curveballs like Van Morrison and The Clash in there, just to make sure you're paying attention. And for our long-time fans who might be appalled at the idea of us going electric, don't worry, we're still playing a lot of your old folksy favourites just like we used to - plus we've got an excitable young fella, Jeffrey, on the fiddle now - if you haven't had the chance to see him yet, you'll get exhausted just watching him sawing away at that fiddle.

If you want a sneak preview of what to expect, you can drop down to see us play a short 2-set gig at Muddy's this Sunday (9th March) at 5pm.

So where would you rather be for Paddy's Day?....

Muddy Murphy's, TripleOne Somerset, 111 Somerset Rd. That's where everyone else will be!

Gan Ainm Play at the Oyster Festival

Sunday 9th March - Go down on an oyster at Muddy's at the annual Guinness Oyster Festival. Afterwards, at 5pm, we'll be there to play for you one last time before the madness that is the week building up to St Patrick's Day...watch this space for more details of those gigs...

Last Saturday Gig until Paddy's

The countdown to Paddy's Day has begun and this weekend will be Gan Ainm's last Saturday appearance at Muddy Murphy's before we disappear into the studio to learn some new songs to unveil at Paddy's week. Come down for a pint at 9pm to see us off!

Gan Ainm's Gong Xie Fa Cai Gig / St Bridget's Day

Happy new year! In a matter of hours, the young stallions from Gan Ainm will be welcoming in the year of the horse down at Muddy Murphy's at Somerset 111 and also celebrating the 2nd (and slightly more obscure) patron saint of Ireland, St Bridget's Day. They welcome you to join them for another rollicking good show at 9:30pm tonight (1 February 2014).

Gan Ainm Plays the Grand Opening of Muddy Murphy's

Although the new Muddy Murphy's has been "softly" opened now for months, the time has come to open it hard - officially that is - with an hour of free booze! Then, once all that free booze has settled safely into your bloodstreams and ours, we have been tasked with entertaining you all for a few hours. This should be fun! We'll be playing tomorrow (Thursday 16 Jan) from 9pm till late - we'll see you all down there for a pint or three at 7pm!

New Gan Ainm - New Muddy Murphy's

In Singapore, nothing stays the same very long. People here are as transient as the buildings and landmarks they frequent. So it shouldn't really come as a surprise that Muddy Murphy's, an Irish institution in Singapore, has had to move with the tides to a new shinier home at TripleOne Somerset, right next to Somerset MRT. To mark the occasion, Gan Ainm, with its shiny new members, will play the band's first gig in 6 months at the new Muddy Murphy's next Friday, 29th November at 9pm. Come down and celebrate with us, an occasion so momentous, that it is sure to mark a new chapter in your social lives.

Gan Ainm Return

It's been a year marked by change. The band has been undergoing a transition over the last six months. Miles, Alex and Nev have moved on and we have three brand spanking new members. We have been busy working away in the studio for the last few months revamping our setlist to work with the new lineup and adding a few new songs to our repertoire. We will be unveiling all this at our first gig in over six months later this month. The first of many more to come over the next few months. Watch this space for further details of when and where. In the meantime, get better acquainted with the new Gan Ainm here.
